Fashion. Discipline 2. Semester 2

when i first came into fashion, i had already researched product design and the natural world. This researched helped me greatly when it came down to deciding on an object of choice for the two week project. I decided on an orange. Although it is quite simple, i discovered a huge range of different shapes that already existed in it or could be created from it. During the first week i created designs on croquies using my two basic shapes. But by the end of the week, after pinning these shapes on the maiquins with paper, these shapes evolved into more interesting and more 3D forms. By experimenting with paper on the maniquin, i learned more about the body and its form and how exciting it can be when placing paper shapes off the body. This made it more fun to design certain details for clothing, such as cuffs, shoulder pads and even ankle pieces.

Secong week of fashion

During the second week of fashion we began to use our materials. I used basic curtain lining for my light weight material, cotton for my medium weight and lino for my heavy weight. By experimenting with these materials on the maniquins, i saw how differently they fell and the unique shapes they created, For me, the material that worked out best was the heavy weight. But i think thats because it was easier to control, just like the paper. Coming towards the end of the week, we had to decide on 6 main designs that we had created durinf the entire process. I mixed and matched designs from both paper drawings and material drawings. When i had decided on my main 6, i was quite happy with them. I couldnt believe that i had designed my own collection. I decided on an orange colour story that i took from a brightly coloured photograph of citrus fruits. It was very enjoyable to mix and match these colours in my collection.
